6 Things To Do on Catalina Island Avalon, California

We moved to California late last year but growing up in California I knew about the hidden gem sitting right off the coast. Catalina Island, one of America’s greatest destinations that not many people know about. It’s close to home yet far away that you get a vacation and there’s so much fun to be had all around the island.Catalina night harbor view from hill

6 Things To Do on Catalina Island – Avalon, California

This weekend my husband and I have the unique chance to check out many activities in the area. We will start our trip leaving on the Catalina Express in Long Beach, Ca.

Once we arrive on the island we will be checking into one of the Catalina Island Vacation Rentals and can’t wait to get started right away with our first tour.

I have always wanted to take a kayaking tour and on Catalina Island there are so many water activities to enjoy. We will be taking the Kayak Tour “Journey to Frog Rock” with Descanso Beach Ocean Sports and can’t wait to explore the waters around the island.

There’s also other fun tours we will be taking like the Nautilus Semi-Submarine Tour from Catalina Adventure Tours. They have a wide variety of boats and tours including a glass bottom boat tour.

The foodie in me is most excited about the local dining. Being an island off the coast I hope to see lots of seafood and I know my husband does too. Dinner at the Avalon Grille will be a culinary treat!

We end our tour with lunch at the Bluewater Avalon. A beautiful location right on the water and the chef has an impressive background so I am looking forward to enjoying this meal.

After lunch we will explore the island including the Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Gardens and we plan on enjoying the rest of the evening together.

Our trip end with a tasty food tour and while I’ve never been on a food tour I have always wanted to. The food is just an addition to the experience and we can’t wait to see and do it all in Avalon, California!

Have you ever been to Catalina Island? Have any tips for us?

I have never been to California before. The beaches look like our’s in Florida – so beautiful! The scenery is breathtaking! Sounds like their is lots to do and lots of great ways to explore!

Florida, you all have amazing beaches, I would say more fun than ours. But for what we got, it works! Catalina is nice because its like Florida and its beach is on the east shore. Different seeing sunrise, versus sunsets.

I hope you have a great time. I spent a week there several years ago and loved it so much I hope to go back again someday.

My husband proposed to me on Catalina Island in 2011 and it has been our favorite place ever since! The food at the Avalon Grille is amazing and the glass bottom boat tour is such a unique memory, I would definitely recommend both. Go to the top of Mt. Ada if you can, the view is amazing!
