Getting Our Pets Ready For Summer

This blog post is part of a paid Megan Media and #PetcoGrooming. The opinions and ideas expressed here are my own.

brunoWe spend  a lot of time together as a family. Our pets are very much family, and we spend a lot of time together. Whether it’s outside in the dirt and mud or going for a hike, just like our kids our pets get dirty too.

Bruno is our two year old German Shepard, he’s always so easy going and loves to be anywhere the kids are. He has a lot of hair and it takes a lot to take care of it, so as you can imagine busy life with three kiddos it isn’t always easy to make sure he’s properly groomed. That’s where Petco Grooming is helpful, and since we’re already shopping at their stores for all of our pet needs it’s convenient too. Petco Grooming SalonPetco Grooming offers convenient pampering from Petco Certified Stylists at more than 1,200 locations with a variety of different packages for everything you need to keep your pet happy and healthy. There are also walk-in services like nail timing, teeth brushing and ear cleaning. We sent Bruno in the Petco Groomers needing a bath, but with his long hair and shedding he also needed a good brushing and his nails trimmed. With the heat here in Southern California he’s also losing a lot of hair shedding so getting him groomed is important or else we will have hair all over the house! bruno beforeBruno enjoyed his grooming, he’s such a large dog that most people are afraid of him so he doesn’t get to be around a lot of people. He did really well with the groomers at Petco and they were so gentle and nice with him, I was worried about how he would react but he didn’t seem to mind it at all.

His before and after show how well the grooming cleaned up all that extra winter hair he had been carrying around. While he was being groomed I even had the chance to get my other errands done and he was pretty excited to be there so I left knowing that he was in good hands.
petco grooming before and afterEvery grooming services begins with the 7-Point Pet Care Check: a visual and physical screening that checks for abnormalities on your pet’s eyes, ears, teeth, nose, under-side, skin, coat, nails, and pads. This is very important because as a pet owner I want to know if anything is wrong with my pet and what I can do to help him. The stylists at Petco have years of experience and training, so I know our Bruno is in the best of care!4Also long as he’s happy and healthy that’s all that matters and I’m just thankful to Petco Grooming for not only making our pet happy but for helping our house stay a little cleaner too!

took my sister’s dog to the local park for the first time and the dog decided to run into the lake and we had no blanket or towel.

  3. AEKZ2 on July 29, 2016 at 8:47 pm

Luckily, I haven’t had too many messy dog moments. When we have a rain storm, my dog will play in the muddy puddles.

  4. Julie Hawkins on July 29, 2016 at 8:26 pm

My dog eats everything. Once he ate a box of chocolate power bars. They came back up all over the carpet. Had to buy new carpet!

my beagle vomited in her bed

  6. Sand on July 29, 2016 at 7:58 pm

My Heidi is a rescue who loves being silly. She has a basket of toys and she will pick her toys out of the basket and leave them all over the house.

  7. Melanie Comello on July 29, 2016 at 7:56 pm

Oh boy, do I know all about that! Lol, if you get the chance, check out the post I made on Facebook a couple of days ago https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10153855833590888&id=535515887
This is my German shepherd pup, that was outside for a mere few minutes on a bathroom break. While he was out there he dug an extremely deep mud pit, he then ran through it over and over. When I opened my back door, first my three older dogs tried to come in, but he practically mowed everyone down as he charged inside. He was so happy and proud of himself, his tail was just a wagging. As it was wagging it shot mud speckles all throughout my kitchen, dining room and living room. Not to mention what his paws did. We’re also not even gonna mention what my clothes looked liked after I tried to grab a hold of his wet butt when he charged in lol. So yes, there was lots of cleaning. Cleaning my little girl, cleaning him, cleaning my floors and carpets, my kitchen cabinets, my tv, etc etc. And I thought my saint Bernard and all his slobber was messy……..nothing on a German shepherd pup lol.

    • Kristin on September 3, 2016 at 2:36 pm

Not fun, but yes I am sure he enjoyed it. Our Bruno is 2.5 years old and is just still like a big puppy sometimes.

  8. Buddy Garrett on July 29, 2016 at 7:49 pm

Our dog ran up to a skunk and got sprayed.

  9. Trisha McKee on July 29, 2016 at 7:15 pm

I have three bulldogs and they do not take well to the heat. Summer is a rough time for them and they often get sick, all three of them throw up any food they manage to eat.

  10. Leanne Godfrey on July 29, 2016 at 7:15 pm

My messy dog moment involved a 145 pound Great Pyrenees rolling around in a mud puddle!!!

  11. jules m. on July 29, 2016 at 4:49 pm

one time my cat had diarrhea and apparently it was explosive. it was all over the cabinets and floor in my kitchen. It took 3 of us several hours to clean it.

  12. Carolyn Daley on July 29, 2016 at 4:25 pm

Our cat Mushu accidentally stepped in green paint and ran off into the kitchen leaving paw prints all over the floor.

  13. Connie R on July 29, 2016 at 2:21 pm

Our jack russell, Sparky loves to always look in our bags from the grocery as he expects a toy to be found. We buy him a toy about once a month because as soon as he has a new toy it is torn to shreds with all the stuffing all over the house. So once a month is enough to clean up after him, but he has such a good time.

  14. heather c on July 29, 2016 at 2:01 pm

When we first met our dog, we figured out she was nervous by the massive amounts of vomit she produced. Thankfully, she isn’t nervous around us anymore.

  15. Rachel Moliere on July 29, 2016 at 9:24 am

Oh, you know when you don’t clean the litter fast enough and the cat decides to just go in the bathtub lol

  16. peggy rydzewski on July 29, 2016 at 7:49 am

This is kind of a sad sorry. Our elderly dog has control of body functions and that was a huge awful mess.

  17. Emily B. on July 29, 2016 at 7:35 am

My messy pet moment is when our tiny Poodle mix got into some gum that had been thrown away. She had the gum spread on her fur, between her paws, and all over the carpet. It was a mess!

  18. Anne davis on July 29, 2016 at 5:53 am

My sweet cat got ready for bed, in my bed, and peed all over the blanket and sheet. NO sleep for either of us until we (I)
    Cleaned up.

  19. Beth Klocinski on July 29, 2016 at 5:43 am

My dog peed and my cat vomited on my white living room carpet this morning. Par for the course for pet messy moments.

  20. Kathy Pease on July 29, 2016 at 5:42 am

We had a cat who loved to dig out my potted plants and would get dirt all over our cream colored carpet

  21. Eugenia Hall on July 29, 2016 at 2:52 am

Once we got a free bag of litter attractant and we were using it to train a new kitten to use his box (he didn’t really need the help, but it was free…). We went out one day and came home to find he’d torn into the bag and spread the contents all over the bathroom floor. It looked like a kitty version of Zen sand gardens.

A messy moment every day, Jadarose goes on a walk to the local park with Rusty and myself. We walk several times around the lake..at the one corner of the lake Jadarose pulls until she gets run and lay in the mud. I have given up trying to keep her out of it, i shaved her down, she is a pomeranian and when we get home I put her in the kiddie pool to lay down, this cleans off the mud.

  24. Corrina Hernandez on July 28, 2016 at 8:16 pm

I’ve always been a cat person and till this day I still am. But I did own a dog name Collie. She was the smartest dog I’ve known. I got her when she was full grown. She understood my commands and always like to give me a handshake. She would always protect our house. Unfortunately she got very sick and we had to stop her suffering. Till this day she was the sweetest dog I’ve ever known and till this day I miss her very much.

  25. Laurie Emerson on July 28, 2016 at 7:36 pm

The messy moment was last week. Our puppy Rusty was playing with his chew toy that he loves. He had it in his mouth and decided to shake it from side to side. It flew out of his mouth, hit the coffee table which had drinks and chips on it. The toy landed right in the middle and everything went flying as well.

  26. Philip Lawrence on July 28, 2016 at 6:58 pm

The messy moment with my dog was when he knocked over my bowl of baked beans when I left the room and ate all of it. The mess was not the spill but what happened 10 minutes later to my dog!

  27. Stephanie Larison on July 28, 2016 at 5:00 pm

Bruno is adorable! Out beagle came in from the pouring rain once, she just ran outside to do her business real quick, but she came in and was all muddy and soaked. Did the shake in front of me and I was then messy. After that I learned to keep a few towels by the back door.

  28. Angela Garland on July 28, 2016 at 2:29 pm

My messy moment with my dog was when he tore up his rope swing and ate all the string. He then proceeded to throw it up all night long.

  29. Christy Leonard on July 28, 2016 at 2:20 pm

  33. Mary Withrow on July 28, 2016 at 10:00 am

My little layla lee loves to chew up my grand daughters toys, I think she is jealous, lol. In these dog days of summer there is a small creek in which she loves to roll in the mud!

  34. Sarah C on July 28, 2016 at 8:00 am

I wish I could post a picture, but a few months back our dog patty decided she didn’t like her dog bed anymore and destroyed it. Literally to shreds, biggest mess ever!

  35. Jennifer J on July 28, 2016 at 6:43 am

My dogs are always getting into something, the mud, the garbage, you name it. I think they do it because they love to get baths! Thanks!!

  36. Keeley Sullivan on July 28, 2016 at 4:28 am

My dog Maggie is always making a mess but I guess the biggest one is when she opened the bathroom door and got into the toilet paper. It was everywhere.

  37. Tera Brown on July 27, 2016 at 10:49 pm

My cat likes to look in the toilet periodically expecting there to be a goldfish or something. Well there’s been a time or two when he fell in and proceeded to leave water paw print going all over my counters. It was lovely. Cat litter and toilet water making a watery paste everywhere.

  38. Joy Venters on July 27, 2016 at 10:09 pm

I guess my messy moment was when we gave the little dog a bath outside first and when he was done and we were doing the larger dog the little one was under the tree rolling around in the dirt and had to have another bath.

  39. Shelby Thomas on July 27, 2016 at 8:33 pm

One time we were in a messy situation was when my English bulldog decided to eat a pair of thong panties , which we did not discover until he pooped them out later … Gross roscoe

  40. Kimberly D on July 27, 2016 at 8:26 pm

I came home from an overnight hospital stay to find my dog BoBo decided to eat my sofa , the kids told me not to look in the living room so I had to look , the sofa was shredded ,I guess it was more then a messy moment ?

  41. Jodi Kershuk on July 27, 2016 at 11:34 am

We have 5 rabbits, everyday is a messy moment. They all are litter trained but we have one rotten buck that likes to turn the potty upside down in the rabbit colony.

My parrot loves to give himself a bath in his water dish. He makes such a mess! The carpet is completely soaked under his cage. He giggles as Mommy dries the rug!

  48. Amber S. on July 25, 2016 at 10:18 am

We were visiting my in-laws and had our new lab with us. They all kept sneaking her ham, which upset her stomach. She threw up all over their new carpet.

  49. natalie yeoman on July 24, 2016 at 8:43 pm

  50. Kathy Hanley on July 24, 2016 at 6:42 pm

Giving my dog a bath always turns into a big project because she hates water. it takes two people to bath her and one to stand guard in case she escapes!

A messy moment is when my poodle went outside in the woods and got burrs caught in his fur.It was really hard to get them out.

  58. Taty Pradilla on July 15, 2016 at 6:18 am

Bruno is so adorable! It looks like they did a really good job on him. Luckily I have a short haired dog that doesn’t require grooming. However, I do take her to to the groomer because she is way to big for my bathtub. (I have a Rottweiler).

  59. Shaney Vijendranath (youbabyandi) on July 15, 2016 at 1:38 am

He is such a cute dog, my daughter would love playing with him. I think grooming is so important for any pet – just like how we go for our monthly treatments.

  63. Lynndee on July 13, 2016 at 6:59 am

Dog grooming is very important. We don’t have dogs here, but we do have a few back in my hometown.

  64. April Mims on July 12, 2016 at 5:24 pm

It’s about time to take our little guy in for a grooming. We’ll have to try Petco and see how he likes it.

  65. Christy Garrett on July 12, 2016 at 1:31 pm

I trimmed my dogs a few weeks ago. I try to cut them shorter so they aren’t so hot. Of course, they do stay indoors most of the time.

These pictures of Bruno are everything! Reminds me of my Benny I love ‘big breeds’ especially German Shepards. Not entering the giveaway as I am ‘between furbabies’ right now, but wishing everyone luck, neat giveaway! 🙂

This gift card would be perfect for a summer cu for my girl!! I keep her hair cut pretty short all year round but especially during the summer months!!

  68. Marty Crosson on July 12, 2016 at 9:36 am

Last weekend’s picnic. A pack of pre-schoolers with squirt bottles of tie-dye color can turn ugly really fast when a friendly white poodle wanders into view. My poor dog looks like he fell into a vat of crayons!

  75. Amy Orvin on July 11, 2016 at 7:05 pm

A messy pet moment is any day when it rains heavily. My dog, Toby loves to “go muddin'”. She loves to roll in the mud and come in filthy. I don’t know why she does this. I always take her straight to the bath tub after.

  76. MAGGIE BRANCH on July 11, 2016 at 5:27 pm

  80. Stacie @ Divine Lifestyle on July 11, 2016 at 9:34 am

Oh my goodness, he’s such a handsome man! Petco did a great job with him. His coat looks so silky and shiny. He should be in a pet shampoo commercial.

  81. amy mayer on July 11, 2016 at 8:02 am

Messy moment–I was babysitting my granddog and he seemed a lil quiet while I was busy on the computer–come to find out he had totally unrolled and chewed up an entire roll of toilet paper!

  82. David Norman on July 11, 2016 at 5:01 am

When I had my collie puppy several years back he spent what we considered a longer than usual amount of time teething. He had decided that the rawhide and the bones we were giving him weren’t sufficient so during the course of the night he had chewed the edges of the wooden cabinets, the rungs of the chairs, pulled the rubber coating off the baseboards, and shredded the edge of the wallpaper. Needless to say it was a big mess.

  83. Ryann on July 11, 2016 at 12:39 am

Hmmm a messy dog moment….Well we live on beautiful Oahu, Hawaii and love to go hiking with our whole family, our 1 year old Yorkie mix included. A few months back we decided to do a hike called Mauana Willi Falls just after a big rain so it was, of course, EXTRA muddy. Our little 6 pound black puppy ended up completely covered from head to tail (same as the rest of us)! I think I was even muddier after the bath I gave our Zoey. 😉

  84. SHIRLEY Y on July 10, 2016 at 4:57 pm
