Child-friendly cities in the U.S.

Choosing a city to settle down in and raise a family involves weighing many financial, educational, cultural and social issues. After comparison and review, many cities in the United States rise to the top of the list, but a select few are noteworthy as ideal locations for building a family and a future.

Northeastern region: Ridgefield Park, New Jersey

Ridgefield Park possesses a quintessential small-town feel in spite of its proximity to New York City. The village, one of a small community of towns and villages known as the Ridgefields, has a very highly-rated school system and sponsors a host of recreational activities for children and families, including sports programs, parks, a town pool and annual holiday events such as the Fourth of July parade & festivities and the Christmas tree lighting and display contest.

A safe community to live and work in, Ridgefield Park offers the best of small-town living, all a quick trip from the best city in the world.

Midwest region: Omaha, Nebraska

Nothing says Midwestern like Nebraska and Omaha is one of the best examples of this. Omaha boasts an outstanding public school system and plenty of well-tended sports fields. The southwestern and western suburbs are especially idyllic, with plenty of tidy cul-de-sac neighborhoods and crime rates so low that children can walk to school worry-free.

Omaha offers plenty for families to see and do together, including a zoo, a children’s museum and a children’s theater that is over 60 years old. With a low-cost of living and plenty of well-paying jobs at local companies, Omaha offers families the safety and security they are looking for with plenty of kid-friendly perks.

Southern region: Naples, Florida

Florida has made its name as a family-fun destination and, with no state taxes and plenty of resident perks, picking up Floida real estate is a goal for many families. Orlando, Tampa and Miami all have their own unique appeal, but in terms of a child-friendly location in which to settle, Naples is the place. Located along the gulf coast, Naples offers a clean, idyllic locale for raising a family, with plenty of activities, sports and, of course, the beach. Here, the incredible weather assures plenty of outdoor sports and activities to keep kids outside all year long. From basketball and soccer leagues to Little League baseball, golf and swimming, Naples has plenty to offer the active family.

Western region: Boise, Idaho

Idaho is not just about potatoes. The capital, Boise, offers an active lifestyle that appeals to families, with plenty of cultural exposure mixed in. From skiing to fly fishing to biking along the Boise River, the city offers clean air and natural wonders just steps away from its busy center.

Cultural activities abound here, with a regional jazz center and theater providing ample opportunity for entertainment and education. Several history and art museums and cultural centers offer a range of exhibitions and programs for adults and children and, with the second largest community of Basque immigrants in the United States, Boise offers wonderful exposure to this and many other unique cultures and ethnic groups.
