Now that Kai is full on reading chapter books she’s diving into contemporary new books from American Girl like never before. I remember getting lost in the world of Kirsten and Abby and am so glad that my daughters can now enjoy the classic and new books from American Girl. Being able to inspire girls is something American Girl has always tried to do but now more than ever they are creating stories to go with that message.
This week Kaila received a package from American Girl that contains a whole set of new books. She dove right into one of the contemporary fiction books, The New Girl. The story is about a new girl who comes to town and the other girls being jealous start to tease her. The girl in the book is whomever your daughter imagines her to be but as a parent I like that it opens up the story and allows my daughter to put herself in the story. With more than 20 different endings, girls will enjoy this book again and again to see how different decisions change the story. Plus, each book comes with a secret access code to unlock additional endings online! The message of this book is one every little girl should learn and I am so happy she’s enjoying reading this book.
The other new books are also aiming at teaching girls important life lessons that not only inspire but teach them important character building skills. Kai also received the book, A Smart Girl’s Guide to Liking Herself . This fun book will inspire girls on days that may get her down, I recently wrote about a day Kaila had at school. This book has tips for making a bad day turn into a good one, tips on trusting yourself, and ideas on booting self-esteem. Doing things like Girl Scouts are ways I help to inspire my daughter with lessons in courage, and understanding, lessons I can only hope they will take with them the rest of their lives.
As a parent I love that the new books are not only inspiring and teaching her important life lessons by making her think about her choices but also building her up as a reader. The books are meant for girls ages 8+ but Kaila is almost 7 and able to read them. As she grows so will American Girl and we can’t wait to share that journey with them.
