Chrysler Contest

So I just got home from my ultrasound and a trip to Cleveland, and I start checking out everyone’s posts and started asking for votes and messaging friends. I come across another competitor in this blog competition to win a trip to NYC for my whole family.

After reading through her blog posts where she tries to get people to vote, I come across a reader of hers calling me a skank and the sorts. She allows it to stay and keep on commenting. But then I also come across her promoting people to use proxies and other readers talking about how they are going around their work and using computers to vote for her.

So, whats the big deal right? Who cares if people find ways to game a contest? Who cares about fairness or integrity? I do. I dont feel right cheating to promoting people to cheat. I dont promote name calling and insulting others, regardless even if they hate me. Its not me.

So when I see that it seems someone is cheating, then I come to see the stats, things click. Lets see, the top 3 people are even in votes, yet they vary in reach. Here I am with a huge strong network, and my numbers are catching up. I started a week late on votes because I was out of town. But the other thing is I know one of the bloggers and know her reach. Its not high, yet she is tied on votes.

So, I start to think, would it best to not pass the top person if you were in fact gaming the contest? I would think their top numbers would vary greatly, but it seems they continue to keep in line with each other. They dont know each other, yet keep the numbers similar. So I though, if someone were to cheat, would it be best to just jump ahead greatly or do it on low. I guess what will be interesting is the last days. Will votes all of a sudden spike and differ?

I never insisted she cheated, but that she seems to be promoting it. She gets offended and insults my husband who asked why she said the things she did. Anyways, my problem is with the allowing of name calling of me, and not discouraging people to cheat. And changing responses to fit her side, is not going to cut since, since there is a written record on her blog stating the opposite. I know under my ONE ip address I cant vote 25 times and so on, but I could go to computer labs and work centers to use multiple computers by myself, its not me.

I think and I feel manipulating votes is wrong especially when it says its not allowed but then contestants letting their readers to joke call me a skank because of my breast size. I honestly would never allow anyone to say such things joking or not. I want no part in this contest that was supposed to bring Chrysler good publicity.

Its doing the opposite. I don’t want any part in their contest. I do thank you all for supporting me. I had bloggers with 30,000 Twitter followers tweeting and Facebooking for me yesterday. I had success in the whole 2 days that I tried, but gave up after the name calling and seeing people bragging about using places with multiple computers to vote. I know my reach and know my network and honestly can say I am disappointed in Chrysler for allowing a voting system that allows for using multiple computers and devices, when their rules clearly stated that that was not legal or accepted.

I will never enter a contest again. Ever.

Why must people cheat and be nasty?

UPDATE:

Even to the last day her readers are still bragging about their access to business centers in Hotels while traveling and using them to garner votes. Just like their other reader bragging about access to college computer labs and voting from each machine. To me this seems manipulating votes, but maybe next time they can create a rule list of different ways to gain votes…

UPDATE:

Chrysler just contacted me via phone and stated that this blogger has been removed from the contest due to the fact that she encouraged her readers to vote from multiple devices. As the rules state one vote per person per day. She will be removed from the contest and all votes from the other contestants will be gone through before a winner is chosen.

I am still in the running so if you’d like to throw my name in to vote you can.

Reason she was disqualified:

She clearly states –
“Remember:

1.
You can vote once (per IP address) every 24 hours. And it’s SUPER FAST and easy. Just a click. No registration or signing in, or any of that LABORIOUS crap.
2. If you work in a place with a server, you can probably get around the IP block and vote many times, AND IF SO WHY AM I NOT AHEAD BY A MILLION YET. (I’ll forgive you if you get on it. Then I’ll mail you cookies. No joke. Maybe even cash. Ahem.)

And also states – http://www.waitinthevan.com/2012/02/its-go-time-comrades.html
“Here’s what you do:

1. Vote for me by selecting my name on the
Chrysler Blogger Face-Off page.
2. Repeat this process from as many computers as you can find.

3. Repeat steps #1 and #2 every day this week. If you work in a computer lab? I WILL MAIL YOU COOKIES.

So was this part of the rules or ways to get votes? Its gets unclear when reading the rules because it says “Votes garnered by using multiple email addresses or any other device or artifice to vote multiple times will be disqualified. In the event of a tie, a random drawing will be conducted from the tied Entries. ”

Lesson to learn:

Read all rules and follow them!!!

How about a little honesty? And I dare you to leave this comment up and not delete it. I’ll be taking a screenshot regardless.

The thing is you say I bully people when in fact that is not true. I didn’t mean for Kristine to feel attacked and I certainly never attacked her in any way. I never said this was because she called me a skank, it was because of the rules of the contest which clearly it was not just her who broke them.

I think a lot was done wrong here and I am sorry at the outcome. I don’t feel its right to attack and harass me.

You quote Tanya Gordon in your post and that’s not true. My long standing problem with ONE person does not mean I run around the internet doing this to people. You can see everything I wrote here and I know Kristine feels hurt. This was not a personal attack on her if it was anyone else I would have pointed it out. As I stated I was never going to win I was on vacation for a week and started votes a week late so I knew I wasn’t going to catch up so I didn’t do this to win.

I am a reasonable person and just am sorry how this all turned out.

As for saying I’m the bully? Come on now….see this. Everyoone knows my long standing history with Tanya Gordon as my lawyer can attest to.

Also lastly, if you look at my twitter stream you’ll see when my husband first tweeted Krsitine and asked her about the comments I was inside an ultrasound getting a check up on my pregnancy. I could have and would have done it myself. When I saw how she responded I chose to keep my mouth shut because clearly she was mad and didn’t want any part in talking to me.

Can you blame my husband for standing up for me? I mean you’re standing up for your friend right now. He is my husband…..

Also if you say I’m a bully you should reread this entire post. I did not bully or harass her in ANY way!! I put THIS ONE post up and that is all. I also sent TWO emails back and fourth with the pr rep doing this contest.

  4. Leah on March 6, 2012 at 9:04 am

So you were losing, wanted Crystler to “remove me from your contest”, ” I don’t want any part of their contest”, “I will never enter a contest again”, got Kristine kicked out for an obvious joke, and…..you are still in it. WOW! You and your husband instigated all of this, so to say you had nothing to do with it is untrue.

I am seeing that the comment was true after all.

  5. Kristin on March 6, 2012 at 8:44 am

I ONLY stayed on to this contest because Chrysler assured me that every vote for EVERY contestant will be gone through so it may look as if someone is winning but they may not be. They also assured me that all addresses are being checked. So while I’m not spending a ton of time asking for votes I did throw it out there.

PLEASE DON’T COME ON MY BLOG TO BULLY AND HARASS ME. I NEVER BULLIED OR HARASSED KRISTINE.

I did in fact ask Kristine why she was allowing her commenters to say such things and she arrogantly brushed me off and instead created a blog post to make fun of me. It was not I who saw her blog posts or had an issue with them ask Chrysler they consulted with legal long before THIS BLOG POST that pointed out her own wrong doing. I suggest you take your harassment to Chrysler for making the decision and not me. This is a loving place where I share MY emotions and my struggles through motherhood.

    Have a good day! 🙂

The point of a competition like this is advertising. To pester your readers and ask them to vote is basically exactly what the companies want; the more people talking about it, the more people buying the product. It

While she didn’t remove the comment, I don’t think she encouraged or initiated it. Comments are a bit about freedom to view your opinions. I doubt I would remove comments on my blog. I would contact the comment poster and ask them to remove it though, if I found it offended me.

It doesn’t really seem like you want to be removed from this competition. Your title is misleading.

(Don’t get me wrong, I really do think your blog is great. But when you decide to get into it with other bloggers, who really do have a large number of active readers, you have to expect some lashing back.)

” I want no part in this contest that was supposed to bring Chrysler good publicity”.

“I don’t want any part in their contest”

“I will never enter a contest again. Ever”

Quoting is such fun don’t you think? 😉

  8. Sonya on March 6, 2012 at 6:21 am

I think you are absolutely right in taking a stand. People need to realize that posting comments on the internet are not private and have consequences!

  9. Ashmimma on March 5, 2012 at 9:25 pm

I couldn’t have said it better. I will vote for the next 2 days, one every different device that I have, for anyone but you. I’ve said it before, but you removed it from your blog, “YOU ARE A POOR SPORT!”. Thisbtrulybis the first time I’ve experienced cyber bullying. You should be ashamed.

  10. HC on March 5, 2012 at 9:16 pm

Tell your husband I said “thank you” for single-handedly robbing my nephews of a trip to see their family. Let’s face it, you were never going to win. Your writing is not that good and your proof reading is worse. The fact that you bully Kristine for something that she didn’t say, but was posted on her page is cowardly. Fight your own battles. I also find it rather ironic that you said you wanted nothing else to do with this contest or any other, but the second that she gets booted you’re all about it. Not that I see it becoming an issue, but if it does I will do everything in my power to see that you do not win. Don’t bother responding to this as I will not be back to your page.

She says this again, and again, and again. Her own words, not mine.

It’s called a sense of humor. If you read her blog, you would get that those comments were meant in jest. I honestly cannot believe that there are adults out there that act as childish and dramatic as you. “Nooo faaaiiirrr….waaaah”. Seriously, get a life or go back to high school.

  12. Vin on March 5, 2012 at 6:38 pm

    Jean9
Kristin used Kristines uncensored blog to get her booted, freedom of speech against her, yet I’m sure this won’t make it to Kristins blog for very long…whats wrong with rooting for votes? how many people do you honestly think went around a computer room voting?? you got that kinda time? I don’t!! go ahead & check ALL votes and disqualify the votes not the contestant or we may lose more than just Kristine! but ignorance is bliss so Kristins safe right? or did she just continue to censor her blog before bad news got out?? heck of a way to win, which shes not going to anyway….oh and the contest is ok to get back in now? she a complete hypocrit!! sleep well ladies

  13. Kristin on March 5, 2012 at 6:34 pm

I didn’t do anything to kick her out in fact I have no control. I simply pointed out the things she was openly saying on her own blog which clearly went against the RULES off the contest.

As for attacking me and laughing about her own readers calling me a skank. I don’t find it funny. She’s not my friend nor do I know her. I don’t think its very funny to joke about people you don’t know. That’s not humor. In fact, when I then asked Kristine about it she arrogantly brushed it off.

I have gotten numerous comments here all saying very mean things about me I don’t moderate comments here because I simply don’t have the time for the amount of comments I get.

I’m really sorry to Krsitine that all of this had to happen. I think there are lessons to be learned all around in this situation.

  14. Mrs. Cox on March 5, 2012 at 3:08 pm

It’s pretty ridiculous that people would go that far for votes. And the reader comments – ugh. I’m glad I don’t have readers like that. How old are they?? No taste.

    • Kristin on March 5, 2012 at 3:24 pm

There are comments just 10 minutes ago saying they are voting form multiple computers. It just proves that Chrysler made the right choice.

I’m just not sure why someone would be so arrogant as to post these things on their blog? I mean…..she dug her own hole on this one. I am glad I spoke up.

I hope the other bloggers can appreciate that I wasn’t trying to start drama and chaos I just wanted it to be fair for ALL!

  15. Courtney on March 5, 2012 at 2:55 pm

This is exactly why I hate voting contests. It’s really not fair to anyone. ps. I think you should totally win 😉

  16. Kristin on March 5, 2012 at 3:05 pm

Thanks ladies, I am just glad that it’s going to be fair for all. Not just me.

I can honestly say I know the other bloggers in the contest and have met them and spent time with them in person. We were all very friendly even supporting one another up until this happened. I wish the best for everyone and sorry it had to come down to this.

It’s a great lesson in always playing fair and staying true to who you are.

Thanks for throwing in a vote for me. 🙂

  17. Jean Parks (@geekbabe) on March 5, 2012 at 2:52 pm

I really wish brands would do away with voting contests in favor of having an independent panel chose the winner via judging post/ essays.

A contest should be fun, increase + awareness of a company .. not cause fighting, nasty words & hurt feelings. I’m sorry this happened to you!

    Btw, I voted for you… once 🙂

  18. Kristin on March 5, 2012 at 2:44 pm

I just wanted to update you all. Chrysler stuck to their rules and has disqualified this blogger.

All votes for all of the bloggers will be double checked to see where the votes came form so no funny business is being done.

It’s too bad that this all had to happen because for days prior to this all of the contestants were very supportive of one another, but there’s always one bad apple in the bunch.

  19. Auriette on March 4, 2012 at 10:13 pm

I have entered and won a couple of minor voting contests. I’ve known a few people to win some really good prizes. I’ve also seen a lot of questionable actions by both contestants and sponsors, like contestants winning after breaking the rules about content in a video contest. Bottom line, it is a popularity contest and a lot of unscrupulous people will do anything to get votes. I would much rather see a judging agency choose a winner — either at random or based on rules and criteria. If someone doesn’t follow the rules (like using copywrited music in a video), disqualify them and choose someone who did everything by the book.

  20. jeannine s on March 4, 2012 at 9:05 pm

This is why I don’t enter voting contests. To many cheats out there. Kudos to you for having integrity

  21. Liz Robinson on March 4, 2012 at 5:59 am

I can’t stand people who cheat or persuade people to cheat. Can there really be satisfaction if or when they win? I would be feeling guilty if I won by cheating but I guess some people do not have a conscience. I hope chrysler does something.

  22. Naomi on March 3, 2012 at 8:09 am

I hate voting contests and I also hate the ridiculous mean girl drama that it usually incurs. I don’t see how your boobs have anything to do with the voting (hello, are you asking men to vote? dude, your boobs are big because you’re PREGNANT and they’re gonna feed your baby!) and you certainly don’t do anything to be called skanky. Geez, you’re always talking about your husband. In fact, he’s often with you at blog events. These people are just ridiculous.

You’re right to withdraw, though I’m sorry you won’t get the chance to win. Chrysler should have rules of public conduct for those entering their contests.

  23. Lyndsey R. on March 3, 2012 at 7:46 am

Wow! What a judgemental little brat! I’m glad your husband told her off.

  24. Melissa P. @Mel4Him on March 3, 2012 at 7:06 am

Honesty is the best policy and all I have to say to you Kristen is that you have CLASS. You have every right not to put up with insults, trash talk, and cheating. You did the right thing. Good for you! : )

  25. BusyWorkingMama on March 3, 2012 at 6:01 am

I personally don’t care for contests where votes can be rigged like that. That alone irritates me.

But the skanky comment about your boobs? Seriously??!! That’s awful. That’s immature. That’s rude. That’s something I would delete from my blog in a split second whether it was said about me (unfortunately, nothing to flaunt with my A cup here!!) or about anyone else.

  26. Kristin on March 2, 2012 at 11:31 pm

If you come here and leave me a nasty comment I won’t allow it. Don’t waste your time, I don’t do nasty banter. 🙂

  27. Steph on March 2, 2012 at 6:47 pm

Ugh. This makes me sad. I wish cheaters didn’t dirty up contests like this. I’m glad you are shining a spotlight on the issue.

  28. courtney b on March 2, 2012 at 6:02 pm

its a shame a contest has to come down to this. Im sorry this happened to you.. these kind of contests seem to always stir up drama.. 🙁

  29. Courtney on March 2, 2012 at 3:46 pm

I have only participated in one voting contest that I thought was fair. Each time someone voted it was another time your name was tossed into the hat. I had 2nd most votes and won te competition because it was still random. (won a car and trip to American idol!) integrity is soooo important!!

  30. Keonté on March 2, 2012 at 3:34 pm

I’m trying to make the connection between having big boobs and being a skank. The only problem is, there is none. So much for sticking together and then another woman said it at that.

I have voiced my displeasure for voting contests on several occasions. I prefer creativity over “numbers”. However, when the prize is something that will bring joy to your family’s life, it’s totally worth it. I’m sad to see that more brands don’t recognize this, especially in a contest.

Kristin, I’ve learned in my short 30 years in Earth that most people who put you down are often the ones who look up to you. Meaning, they want something you have…self-esteem.

Hopefully the problem will be fixed and there will be a happy ending. We— bloggers, women, mothers—need to stick together.

    • Krista Swan on March 5, 2012 at 4:05 pm

Well said on every point, Keonté!

  31. mya11 on March 2, 2012 at 3:09 pm

Is what you are doing any less inappropriate- I think you are wrong…you can not control what people say or how they say it…you are doing exactly the same thing…shame on you!

    • Kristin on March 2, 2012 at 3:19 pm

I’m just saying I no longer want to be a part of their contest. Nothing inappropriate about that now is there?

    • mya11 on March 2, 2012 at 3:51 pm

You are posting another persons blog and that is not right. I am just saying that you are back lashing a blog that is just promoting them self and not other peoples negativity. Here you are being negative and posting their blog on your site…it seems that lines have been crossed and that you are not so innocent either-

    • Kristin on March 2, 2012 at 11:37 pm

I’m simply posting her own words since she has since deleted them. There’s no harm no foul in that.

The rules simply state no extra devices, no tampering of votes, read the official rules yourself. She clearly wants her readers to do just that. Her own words. HA!

    • Sky on March 5, 2012 at 3:29 pm

Whoever was allowing people to post this on their blog and not doing anything about it and even encouraging it gave up their right to not have it reposted to where other people could see. Anyway it is a public blog afterall which means everyone can see it. If the blogger that did all of this didn’t want it to be seen then they shouldn’t have encouraged it or ever allowed it to be posted! Just my opinion, but what goes around comes around! And Kristin, I wish I had boobs like yours! Mine are bleh since breastfeeding 2 children!

  32. Brenna @ Almost All The Truth on March 2, 2012 at 3:03 pm

I absolutely hate contests that require votes (especially when they can do it more than once). I have participated in a couple, but never feel right about asking people for votes and often feel that they never really measure anything. Sorry you had to endure name calling like that.

  33. Jen on March 2, 2012 at 2:49 pm

Wow and I just discovered that you can vote on different browsers too (for the same person in the same day). Chrysler – surely there must be a better voting system.

    • Jen on March 2, 2012 at 2:53 pm

Actually this may not be the case…

    • Kristin on March 2, 2012 at 2:59 pm

I tried IE and it worked so it may be the case. Unless someone else clicked vote at the same time I did.

  34. Jen on March 2, 2012 at 2:32 pm

Something seems very off to me too….just really off. I would never let comments through that say such rude things about someone else in the competition. Bravo to you for bowing out…I’m not far behind.

    • Kristin on March 2, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Thank you for playing fair and being the honest and classy woman that I know you are.

    • Kathy on March 2, 2012 at 2:49 pm

It seems like some people leave ethics at the door when it comes to winning. Good for Kristin for standing up for herself.

  35. Cat Davis on March 2, 2012 at 2:29 pm

That’s about as low and pathetic as it gets for a voting contest. What a shame to see that kind of behavior.

    • Jen on March 2, 2012 at 2:39 pm

      I agree…pretty low is right.

  36. Me on March 2, 2012 at 2:24 pm

First, get a sense of humor. Second, this post boils down to “Why am I not winning when I think I am more popular…”

    • Kristin on March 2, 2012 at 2:29 pm

Actually I just got home from vacation I haven’t been begging for votes for a week, it’s not about votes it’s the fact that she encourages proxy servers to be used and if she is I’m sure others are too.

Also I don’t think saying my “bloggy boobs are skanky” is funny. Sorry.

    • Jen on March 2, 2012 at 2:34 pm

I don’t think it’s funny either. Spamming people for votes is ridiculous.

      The rules clearly state:
Votes garnered by using multiple email addresses or any other device or artifice to vote multiple times will be disqualified.

    • Kathy on March 2, 2012 at 2:49 pm

I voted for you because I like you as a person.

Good for you for having an opinion and standing up for it.

Stay strong. Don’t let the haters get to you.
